The increasing public awareness of health and sustainability has prompted the development of functional foods rich in health-promoting ingredients. Processing technologies and sustainable multifunctional ingredients are needed for structuring these formulations. Spruce galactoglucomannan (GGM), the main hemicelluloses in softwood cell walls, are an abundantly available, emerging sustainable
Galactoglucomannan and galactomannan are among the most abundant plant polysaccharides in nature. The central enzymes involved in their degradation, i.e., endo-1,4-beta-mannanase (beta-mannanase, EC 3.2.1.78), beta-mannosidase (EC 3.2.1.25), and alpha-galactosidase (EC 3.2.1.22) were purified from the filamentous fungus Aspergillus niger and characterized with respect to physical properties and substrate specificity.
Three reference systems including galactomannan from locust bean gum, glucomannan from konjac and the linear water-soluble carboxymethyl cellulose were studied with focus on molecular weight, sugar composition, degradation products, as well as formed oligomers, to identify relative structural changes in GGM. Glucomannan with α-(1→6)-linked galactose units in side branches is called galactoglucomannan. [citation needed] Biological function. In the yeast cell wall, mannan oligosaccharides are present in complex molecules that are linked to the protein moiety. acetylated galactoglucomannan (AcGGM), enabling this raw material to be utilized in the synthetic design of new classes of materials. Based on the chemical modification of the hydroxyl groups with crosslinkable groups in combination with the naturally high hydrophilicity, synthetic pathways for the production of functional hydrogels are presented. The galactoglucomannan (GGM) extraction was evaluated on the basis of weight-average molecular weight (MW), yield and carbohydrate composition of the GGM. The MW was determined by size-exclusion chromatography with column calibration using off-line MALDI-MS analysis, and determination of mannan content in the fractions collected. 2009, 75, 498. • G’ significantly higher than G’’ after deacetylation →Galactoglucomannan solution obtains elastic properties after deacetylation A major enhancement of grease and water vapor barrier properties was accomplished with a 1-10 g/m(2) coating of O-acetyl galactoglucomannan (GGM) ester or with GGM coatings applied as water dispersions on cartonboard. GGMs were esterified with phthalic and benzoic anhydrides, respectively. This also resulted in a separation degree, which was higher compared with the hydrophobic membrane, thus yielding a higher galactoglucomannan (GGM) purity.

Abstract An in vitro and in vivo study was conducted to evaluate the fermentability of isolated galactoglucomannan oligosaccharides (GGMs) and the influence of their feeding on shedding and colonisation of Salmonella typhimurium, growth performance and intestinal morphology in broiler chicks.

Norway spruce are rich of galactoglucomannans and can contain it up to 10–20%. Galactosylated glucomannan is known as galactoglucomannan (GGM). GGM has high industrial importance, as it is the most abundant noncellulosic polysaccharide in gymnosperm (softwood) secondary cell walls, constituting up to 20% of the plant dry mass (Willför et al., 2008).
Galactoglucomannan oligosaccharides (GGMOs) are signalling molecules originating from plant cell walls influencing plant growth and defence reactions. The present study focused on their interaction with exogenous IAA (indole-3-acetic acid).

Galactoglucomannan (GGM) from spruce was studied with respect to the degradation behavior in alkaline solution. Three reference systems including
The researchers extracted galactoglucomannan from the Spruce tree (Picea abies), and then fed it to probiotic bacteria in the laboratory. This also resulted in a separation degree, which was higher compared with the hydrophobic membrane, thus yielding a higher galactoglucomannan (GGM) purity. 2D HSQC NMR results show that no major structural differences were present in the hydrophilic and hydrophobic retentates.

Hemicellulose in Softwood - galactoglucomannan There is a galactose richer fraction of galactoglucomannan with a galactose to glucose to mannose ratio of approximately 1 : 1 : 3. Galactoglucomannan are easily depolymerized by acids and especially so the bond between galactose and main chain. The acetyl groups are much more

GGM can be hydrolyzed into fermentable sugars, or used as a polymer in films, gels, and food additives. In this work, the usability of modified O-acetyl galactoglucomannan (GGM) for modification of NFC surface properties was studied. Four GGM-block-structured, amphiphilic derivatives were synthesized using either fatty acids or polydimethylsiloxane as hydrophobic tails. Background: Galactoglucomannan (GGM) is the most abundant hemicellulose in softwood, and consists of a backbone of mannose and glucose units, decorated with galactose and acetyl moieties.
